Rural Riders…..what is it…?
Simply 6 riders in a dressage arena doing a test at the same time! So, now that’s explained,
would you like to be part of the team? You and your horse/pony must be capable of lateral work and
rein-back. Practises / training will take part at the club field, and other locations (a
contribution may be required towards hire of locations/instructor) between now and the
competition around June next year, so you must be committed! If you would like to be considered,
please contact initially stacey.collins@roberthorne.co.uk
and we will arrange a get together to discuss in more detail.
Surrey: rights of way improvement plan
Surrey County Council has gone out to consultation (rather on the quiet) about
its rights of way improvement plan. It is looking for suggestions from the
public as to improvements to the rights of way network. Apparently, they have
had virtually no responses from riders (but perhaps that's because few people
know about the exercise?).
If members have any suggestions about how the riding network can be improved,
they can do this on-line by going to
www.surreycc.gov.uk/rightsofway
and clicking on "rights of way improvement plan", and then clicking on the link
in the second paragraph to complete an on-line questionnaire (NB NOT the link in
the third paragraph).
It's important that as many riders respond with viable suggestions as possible,
in order to generate sufficient momentum for change. The on-line questionnaire
includes a facility to pin-point on a map the point (or route) to which a
suggestion relates. It's not entirely user-friendly, so do read the help notes
first.
Remember this is mainly about rights of way. So "permissive" access is not
strictly within scope (new or better riding routes on, say, Bookham Common or
Norbury park are unlikely to be relevant, unless you are proposing new rights of
way or changes to existing rights of way, rather than new permissive routes).
Could you please pass this on to members, and perhaps they may have others to
whom they could send this?
I'm happy to take any queries direct.
Hugh
